"Diverlars Presents: Pictures taken on the shipwreck..."SCHURZ"

...The SCHURZ, formerly the German gunboat "GEIER",was built in 1894. It was 254 feet in length and weighed in at approximately at 1557 tons. It was captured and recommissioned in May of 1917 as an U.S. NAVY ship in WORLD WAR 1. It sunk in a collision with the "SS FLORIDA" on June 21, 1918. She rests in about 110 feet of water. Visibility is usually decent on the Schurz. Many forms of sea life make their home on this dilapidated wreck. She is still pretty well intact considering she was sunk over 80 years ago.

...Where the bow was, (which can still be determined once you look at the wreckage) you can still see the remnants of her forward gun. Around the center of the wreck there are multitudes of artifacts to collect, lots of sea creatures, and you can still see her boilers. Towards the aft of the ship you can find Ordnance items including rounds and blasting caps. She is a great deep dive for those who like it deep and an outstanding wreck for an advanced class to make their deep dives on. Below are some photo's that were taken when Julian (pookie) Tye and myself dove her on October 10,1998 and again on October 10 1999 when I dove with Rich Hardin:
