Captain Lars' Manifest

Yeah, I know I've been slacking on this page. Truth is, I've been working alot on the SQ II and have not had time to update this, but here you go...the long awaited update and an introduction of some of the "CREW".

Log date: 25 May 2002, Ocean was a little rough on the way out to the "planned" dive site the "AEOLUS". We decided instead of taking a pounding we would head south to the "Hutton". It turned out to be a good call as visibility was fair to midland, little current, and little boat traffic. Well, as you see from the date it was the first day of the Memorial Day weekend and everyone with a boat decided to launch where we do! So after a long day of diving, there's nothing like a 2 hour delay in getting your boat back on your trailer and heading home!

Log date: 26 May 2002, After a long night and little sleep we ventured out again, this time to follow the dive plan. The ocean had 1-2 foot sea's and we were able to make pretty good time heading out to the "Suloide". The dive was great and we headed for our next site, the "Indra". We spent a little time finding the wreck, since my numbers were off by about 1/4 of a mile, but then we finally got a hook on her starboard. Once again we had good visibility and it was just a real good dive! On the way back, two miles from the inlet, I realized that in my habit of Good Housekeeping, I had removed the "extra" oil  that I kept on board for emergencies. I had been so tired the day before that I forgot to check the engine oil. I hailed the SeaQuest II and Capt. Jerry bought me 2 quarts to get back in. I really need to pay attention to that checklist that is on the boat!

Log date: 1 June 2002, Ole' Phlink paid us a visit this weekend and we went out for a dive. Bee happened to be early for a change, and that just screwed me all up! Just as I thought I had everything, I realized at the dock that I left my BC at my house! Not a problem though...Chris ran to Discovery and grabbed me one. The sea was a little lumpy so we again headed for the "Hutton". Great dives were had by all! Good visibility and warmer temps make Lars a happy boy!

Log date: 4 July 2002, It was our first voyage to the East Side this year, so of course it was to be a bumpy ride. We arrived at my favorite wreck, "The ASHKHABAD", and had good vis. We heard on the radio that two of the charter boats were heading our way, so we made sure we dove her first. Little Ben got to see the wreck with some vis on her as he dove with Jeff. I was quite busy cruising the wreck on my scooter.

Log date: 5 July 2002, Seas were 1-2 feet. There was a little swell approximately 5 miles off shore. We decided to venture once again to the "Suloide" since the rumors of the day before was 60' on the bottom. As we were setting anchor, I watched Chris tie in to the wreck. I could see him clearly as he attached the chain to the wreck. We managed two real good dives as Spike (Prior student and Marine) and Candy (Chris's Friend) joined the illustrious crew. Chris also managed to get two real nice flounders, as the moratorium is now lifted.

Log date: 27 July 2002, After a few weekends being blown out, me and the fearless crew decided to make way for the Senator Duhamel. After dropping Chris in and vis being bad along with the current, he couldn't seem to find the wreck....it's o.k., I had the same problem last year and Jerry had to drag me over it! Chris popped up and I decided to head for the Fenwick Island. Real bad move as the seas decided to increase in height and sharpness. Bee and Ed were at their wits end putting up with my screaming and yelling as I now dropped Chris over in 5 foot seas with 5-6 second intervals in-between. We should have gone home, but we all decided to stay since we came this far. Chris tied in and we made it a dive. As me and Little Ben made it to the wreck, I inspected the tie, since there was alot of sea-mist emanating from the anchor (sea mist = discoloration). I spent a good portion of the dive trying to play "Arnold" and keep the boat attached to the wreck, as the tie in broke free. After about fifteen minutes of sheer hell, Chris came down the line after his surface interval and helped me re-tie. Me and my son made a great second dive trying to shoot two elusive Grouper we never got and completed our lovely day with a slightly bumpy ride home that our Chiropractors appreciated!
